I think we would do well to remind ourselves from time to time of the prescriptions of the food pyramid. Before I could finish my Google-image searching to find a nice picture with all the numbers of servings for each group, I came upon the Harvard School of Public Health’s Healthy Eating Pyramid. It’s presented here for the useful instruction of everyone who looks at this blog (which for all I know is mostly me). Please click to enlarge:
On their web page, they list 5 basic recommendations to go along with their kinda-familiar but new chart:
1. A healthy diet is based on good, regular exercise.
2. The pyramid is a general guide to how you should eat and doesn’t worry about the number of servings or how many grams of what food you should eat, so neither should you.
3. They’re very clear that a plant-based diet is healthiest. This explains why nuts get their section. Hrumph! Nuts!
4. Avoid the American staples. You know what they mean: meat & potatoes, white bread, salty snacks, and Coca Cola. I can’t believe they just came out and said this. I mean, yeah, they’re right.
5. It’s good to take a multivitamin, or a drink.
Tonight’s dinner:

keep it in your pants!
